His expertise is in mental health policy, financing and service delivery and he has worked with the World Bank, World Health Organization and national governments on the development and implementation of mental health programs. He is the Mental Health Advisor to the Australian Government. Professor Whiteford trained in medicine, psychiatry and health policy in Queensland, Australia and at Stanford University in the USA. He has held senior clinical and administrative positions, including those of Director of Mental Health in the Queensland and Federal governments in Australia and with the World Bank in Washington DC.
